About Praise & Worship Team
Compassion Church Worship Team Information & Application
The purpose of the Compassion Worship Team is to usher the congregation into the presence of God. It is not a performance, but rather an opportunity to use our voices, instruments, and talents to praise and worship God. We use music to remind the congregation who He is, celebrate all He has done, and restore hope in His promises. Our team is co-lead by Leah McMullin and Bryce York.
As a team, we:
- Value the importance of having an ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ. Spiritual maturity and having a servant’s heart.
- Strive to be peacemakers. Not one of us is perfect, and if there’s an offense with anyone on the team, we value speaking the truth in love and respect and doing all we can to resolve the issue.
- Encourage each other to grow in their relationship with Christ. We value the importance of community within the team and within the church. This includes participating in our gatherings, special events, midweek gatherings, various trainings, UGroups, etc.
Team Expectations:
- Time Commitment: Practices occur Thursday evenings from 6:30pm-8pm. Please arrive on time, prepared. Sunday morning service is at 10:00am. We meet before service at 8:45am, unless otherwise specified, for prayer and practice.
- Resources: We use programs such as Planning Center, Google Sheets, and Dropbox to communicate and disburse resources to the team. We are more than happy to teach all new members how to use and access each of these!
- Dress Code: At Compassion we encourage our congregation to “come as you are.” Generally speaking, our style of clothing is casual. Please do not wear clothing that would distract others from worshiping God.
- Attendance: We understand life happens, and there may be a time when someone is scheduled to play or sing, but for some reason can’t be there. If that were to happen, please let us know as soon as possible, so we can prepare for whatever changes are required.
Worship Team Onboarding Process:
- Attend and complete Starting Point classes offered quarterly at Compassion with our Lead Pastor.
- Fill out the “Compassion Wide” volunteer application (given at Starting Point).
- Fill out the “Worship Team” application by clicking here.
- Bryce or Leah will contact you for a brief phone conversation.
- If all goes well, you’ll be asked to join us for 4 weekly practices on Thursday evenings. This allows us to get to know you and for you to get a sense of our team and how we operate. Building a positive culture and connection is super important!
- Once you’ve successfully attended 4 practices and leadership feels you are ready, you’ll be able to begin serving on Sunday mornings (based on your availability).
